Second phone number

A second phone number for your business.

Keep business calls and texts separate from your personal number. Numberline gives you a business phone system with its own number, greeting, voicemail, and call routing, all on the mobile phone you already use.

Can you have two phone numbers on one phone?

Yes. You can keep your personal number and use a separate business number on the same phone. Numberline forwards incoming business calls to your mobile and lets you call and text from your business number through the app. No second phone or additional SIM is needed.

A business phone service

A business number that rings your existing mobile and lives in an app for calling and texting. Greetings, voicemail, routing, and teammates come with it.

A second carrier line or eSIM

A second cellular number from your carrier. It behaves like a regular phone line, and business features depend on the carrier and plan.

Customers call your business number.

Give out the business number on your website, your cards, and your invoices. When a customer calls it, Numberline forwards the call to your mobile, or to the people you choose. The caller only ever sees the business number.

Add a greeting so callers hear your business name first, and add extensions when you want callers to reach a person or department directly. Forward calls to any phones you choose, ringing one after another. Simultaneous ringing is available on Grow and Max. How call routing works →

Customers see your business number when you call back.

Return a missed call from the Numberline app and the customer’s phone shows your business number. Outbound business calls go through the app so the business number is what shows. Calls made from your personal cellular line show your personal number. To call using your Numberline business number, start the call in Numberline.

Outbound minutes are included with every plan. Incoming calls never count against them. How to call from your iPhone with your business number →

Business texts and voicemails stay organized.

Customers text your business number and the conversation lands in the Numberline inbox, where you reply as the business. Texting is available once the required SMS compliance approval for your business is complete.

Calls to your business number that are not answered go to your Numberline business voicemail, not your personal voicemail. Callers hear your business greeting, and each message is recorded, transcribed, and emailed to you. Your personal texts and voicemail stay on your phone as they are. How business texting works →

Set hours for your business calls.

Business calls can follow different rules when you are closed. Ring your mobile during the day, then send after-hours calls to voicemail with an after-hours greeting, to a teammate, or to the answering provider you choose. Your personal calls continue as usual.

Start with simple forwarding. Add the rest when you need it.

Start by forwarding business calls to your mobile. Add greetings, extensions, and teammates whenever you need them.

  • A recorded greeting in your business name
  • Optional menus and extensions for people or departments
  • Forwarding to teammates in the order you choose
  • Add teammates without paying per-user fees

Should you use a business phone app or a second carrier line?

Both give you a second number on the phone you already carry. They differ in what comes with the number.

A second carrier line suits someone who simply wants another cellular number on their phone. A business phone system suits someone who needs to manage customer calls and messages: a greeting, routing, voicemail that stays separate, and other people able to answer. Carrier features vary by carrier and plan, so check what yours includes.

How to get a second phone number for your business

1

Choose your business number.

Pick a local number in the area code your customers know or a toll-free number, or bring an eligible business number you already have. Porting details are shared when your setup opens.

2

Choose where calls ring.

Forward the number to your mobile, or to your mobile and a teammate’s. Record your business greeting and set up business voicemail, so callers hear your business from the first second and unanswered calls go to your business voicemail, not your personal voicemail.

3

Call and text from the app.

Use the Numberline app to place calls and send texts from the business number. Texting starts once the required SMS compliance approval for your business is complete. Compare plans →

Second phone number questions

Can I have a personal and business number on the same phone?
Yes. Your personal number stays on your carrier plan exactly as it is. Numberline adds a separate business number that rings the same phone through call forwarding and the Numberline app, so one phone carries both numbers without a second device.
Can I use a second business number on an iPhone or Android?
Yes. Numberline forwards business calls to any mobile phone, and the Numberline mobile app for iOS and Android is where you call and text from the business number. There is nothing to change in your phone's carrier settings.
Do I need another SIM card or a different mobile carrier?
No. Numberline is a business phone service, not a cellular plan. Your existing phone and carrier stay the same. Incoming business calls are forwarded to your mobile, and outbound business calls and texts go through the Numberline app.
Which number will customers see when I call them?
When you place the call from the Numberline app, the customer sees your business number. Calls made from your personal cellular line show your personal number. To call using your Numberline business number, start the call in Numberline.
Can I call and text from the same business number?
Yes. Calls and texts both use your business number. Outbound calls go through the Numberline app. Texting is available once the required SMS compliance approval for your business is complete, and texts land in the shared inbox where you reply as the business.
Can I keep an existing business number?
Numberline is designed to support bringing the business number your customers already call. Join early access and we will share the porting steps when your setup opens. Your current service stays active until the transfer completes. See how porting works.
How does business voicemail work?
Numberline provides separate business voicemail with your business greeting. Messages left there are recorded, transcribed, and emailed to you. When a call to your business number is not answered, including when your phone is off, out of coverage, or you decline the call, it goes to that business voicemail rather than the personal voicemail on your phone.
Can someone else answer calls to my business number?
Yes. Forward the business number to a teammate's mobile as well as your own, ring phones one after another, or give people their own extensions. Users are unlimited on every plan, so adding someone never adds a per-user fee.
