What happens when you port your number.

You use an active Numberline number while the port is pending. Your existing number takes over when the port completes.

Your current service keeps working until the port completes. Your current carrier sets the timeline. We tell you when it’s done.

What you need before you start.

Five details from your current provider. They must match its records exactly.

Leave your existing service active until the port completes. Cancelling early can release the number and cause the port to fail.

Porting questions

Can I keep my business phone number when I switch?
Yes, if the number is eligible. Porting is free, and we handle it. Wireless, landline, and toll-free numbers can often be ported. Your current carrier confirms eligibility. Customers keep calling the same number.
Does my number stop working during a port?
Your current service keeps working until the port completes, so keep it active. You get an active Numberline number to use in the meantime. You keep it after the move, so you have both. The ported number can send texts once carrier registration is approved, and we file it for you.
How long does number porting take?
Your current carrier sets the timeline. We handle the port and tell you when it is done.
When should I cancel my old service?
After the port completes and we confirm it. Cancelling early can release the number and cause the port to fail.
Can I port a number from Google Voice?
Numbers held in Google Voice can generally be moved to another provider. Have your account details ready and keep the number active until the port completes.
What happens if a port request is rejected?
The usual cause is a detail that doesn’t match your current carrier’s records, such as the account number, passcode, or billing address. Once the detail is corrected, we resubmit the request. Keep your current service active in the meantime.

Porting works the same way for eligible toll-free and vanity numbers.
